The Head Acrobatics and Tumbling Coach/Office Administrator is responsible for overseeing the Acrobatics and Tumbling (A&T) program and providing administrative support to the athletic office. The Head Acrobatics and Tumbling Coach/Office Administrator reports directly to the Athletic Director. As the Head Acrobatics and Tumbling Coach, duties include providing leadership and direction for the focus of the A&T program, choreograph, teach, and develop team members' skills and quality routines for the season; and carry out various administrative duties such as developing and managing a yearly budget, coordinating tryouts, recruiting locally and domestically, developing and nurturing professional relationships, and addressing general inquiries and questions. As the Athletics Administrative Assistant, responsibilities include issuing sports contracts, creating payment and reimbursement requests for athletic staff, making game management schedules, providing customer service, ordering supplies and performing other clerical duties.
Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year collegiate institution or equivalent experience of coaching acrobatics and tumbling at an intercollegiate level.
Two years of experience competing in or coaching a collegiate acrobatics & tumbling program
One year experience in office administration
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office
Ability to work nights and periodic weekends and holidays as needed
CPR/First Aid/AED certified
Demonstrated commitment to rules/policy compliance and a commitment to student-athlete success both academically and athletically
Two years of large scale office administration experience and working with diverse populations
Possess excellent leadership and communication skills to effectively communicate to students, faculty, and staff
Ability to learn technology solutions and possess technical skills
Self-motivated, ability to work independently, and possess high level of energy and an ability to work well in a team and demonstrate initiative and cooperation with others
Excellent organizational and communication skills including an ability to oversee a wide variety of activities, to define problems, to propose and implement effective solutions, while being able to set and readjust often competing priorities
Writing and editing skills, including strong attention to detail and ability to multi-task
A strong commitment to quality service
Report to work obligations to support the department and may require work during HPU's winter break, if necessary.
Must meet training and background check qualifications and comply with the Protection of Minors policy.
Able to work all shifts and extended hours.
Upon hire, candidate must have reliable transportation to all HPU worksites and other locations as required by the position.
Successful candidate will be able to work in an environment that utilize excellent time and stress management skills.
Key Responsibilities and Essential Functions: 1. Acrobatics and Tumbling Team - Coaching (25%):
Provide instructions for practice and competition as well as develop team members' skills and ensure the team has quality routines for the season
Coordinate recruiting efforts and recruit academically and athletically qualified student-athletes
Practice accepted standardized safety in accordance with NCAA guidelines and NCATA rules and regulations
Maintain morale and integrity of student-athletes and encourage and foster sportsmanship and pride within both the A&T team program and the University
Effectively communicate, interpret, and uphold the expectations and responsibilities of the team members as outlined in the student handbook as well as student-athlete manual
Ensure that all student-athletes adhere to all university and code of conduct rules
Supervise, mentor, and counsel graduate assistants and team captains
2. Acrobatics and Tumbling Team - Administration (25%):
Work with the Athletics Director in coordinating all aspects practice schedule, facility rentals, fundraisers, uniform/equipment orders, etc.
Encourage team members to be academically successful and arrange programs and support services to assist those as needed
Establish a yearly budget proposal and work within approved budget parameters
Ensure all inquiries regarding the A&T program are answered quickly and efficiently Including, but not limited to, prospective students, staff/faculty, vendors, community organizations, etc.
Represent Hawaii Pacific University and A&T program in a manner that supports the mission of the university.
Perform at least one community engagement and one fundraising effort as a team
Develop and update master athletic calendar each fiscal year
Arrange and email schedules for weekly office and monthly coaches meetings
Create and update seasonal game management schedules
Prepare sports contracts for all athletic programs
Collect and prepares materials for the Director of Athletics
Communicate athletic department policies and procedures to athletic staff and other constituents
Perform secretarial duties such as answering phones and responding to daily athletic inquiries
4. Perform other Athletic Department duties as assigned (10%)
Actively participates as an effective member of team by completing assigned duties, accepting additional assignments or reassignments.
Assists with seasonal peaks.
