Under the general direction of the Associate Athletic Director for Business Development, the Director of Student-Athlete Recruitment will serve the Division of Intercollegiate Athletics in a vital role to each of the Division’s 23 varsity sports programs to ensure a professional, consistent, innovative, and creative approach in the recruitment process and experience for prospective student-athletes. In this position, the incumbent will research and implement industry best practices to strategically position the University of Wisconsin-Madison as a leader in intercollegiate athletics in attracting and engaging prospective student-athletes.
Duties include: Working with and coordinating internal resources (i.e. Athletic Communications, Video Services, Marketing, Compliance, etc.) to develop and maintain a robust “recruitment menu” providing each sports program with a variety of vetted options to create a customized recruitment experience for prospective student-athletes and their families all while maintaining a consistent UW Athletics brand throughout the entire process. Maintaining a productive and positive relationship with coaching staffs, recruiting support personnel, athletics administration and support staff. Identifying and acting upon opportunities to maintain brand consistency with all recruitment communications including: printed collateral, online social media messaging, facilities signage, etc. Managing a departmental budget to maintain a fiscal responsible funding for recruiting resources and initiatives. Providing internal training and development opportunities to staff on branding, process consistency, and recruiting best practices. Working closely with UW Athletics Compliance to ensure adherence to NCAA, Big Ten, WCHA, IRA, and University rules and regulations in all recruitment activities. Establishing reporting and data analytic processes to identify trends, measure outcomes, and identify opportunities and solutions. Networking with contacts within intercollegiate athletics to bring to Wisconsin innovative, cutting edge and “outside of the box” ideas to further enhance a world class recruitment experience for prospective student athletes.
Qualifications: Bachelor's degree is required. Three (3) or more years of related, professional experience in intercollegiate recruiting at a Division I school is required (A minimum of seven (7) years of related professional experience is required for the senior level title). The most qualified candidates will bring a combination of creativity, innovation, strategic thinking, organizational skills, budgetary experience, exceptional communication skills, and the ability to lead and instruct others.
Additional qualifications include: The ability to quickly assimilate to the Badger Family by understanding and embracing the rich traditions of UW Athletics and putting into practice positive actions that adhere to the vision and mission of the department and University. Demonstrated knowledge and commitment to adhering to NCAA, Big Ten, WCHA, IRA and University rules and regulations; ability to work cooperatively with diverse groups and administrators, faculty, staff and students; ability to develop and implement innovative approaches and solutions; ability to work well independently and in teams; and ability to be flexible in accepting new responsibilities.
Conditions of Appointment: This is a 100% renewable Academic Staff appointment. Salary and level will be assigned within the appropriate range, commensurate with the candidate’s qualifications and experience. An excellent benefits package is also included.
