Executive, Executive - Associate Athletics Director
Under the general supervision of the Associate Vice President/Director of Athletics this position is responsible for executive level leadership, revenue generation and management of all areas of Alumni and Community Outreach and Athletic Department Strategic Planning. This position also serves as the primary Athletic Department liaison to the NIU Varsity Club (former letter winner’s alumni group), Hall of Fame, and sport administrator for assigned sport(s). Additionally, this individual will be responsible for reviewing various administrative functions and processes related to Intercollegiate Athletics (as assigned).
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS • Serve as the Department Head for areas related to Community and Alumni Outreach with responsibility and oversight for the Varsity Club and Hall of Fame. • Primary emphasis on increasing Community and Alumni partnerships in the local community as well as focusing on cultivating regional and national partnerships. • Serve on Executive Leadership Team. • Recruit, hire and manage staff for Varsity Club, Hall of Fame, and Specific Sport Oversight. • Collaborative approach to leadership, along with awareness of best approaches to intercollegiate athletic Campus, Community and Alumni Outreach. Including all initiatives designed to generate engagement and partnership with NIU Alumni. • Oversee and manage all components associated with the Athletic Department Strategic Plan, including facilitation of process, campus/community engagement, and follow up/record keeping. • Manage/Organize Varsity Club, Hall of Fame, and Athletic Department Alumni for all sport programs including game day hospitality and Athletic Department Alumni functions and events. • Create opportunities for interaction between the University, Athletic Department and Alumni Office to enhance annual and capital giving. • Liaison with University Alumni Association. • Facilitate the coordination of all Athletic Department Revenue Generation from alumni engagement and partnerships. • Supervisor for assigned sports/ administrative units, including budget, personnel review, and short and long term goal setting. • All other duties as assigned.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES • Develop and implement innovative approaches and solutions? work well independently and in teams? and be flexible in accepting new responsibilities. • Coordinate activities of Campus, Community and Alumni Outreach with all other Athletic Department units and with University units (University Foundation, Alumni Association, University Media Services and University Relations) • Work effectively with all constituents (university, alumnus, community, etc.).
CUSTOMER SERVICE • Serve on University committees and councils as assigned or elected. • Represent athletics program and University with the highest integrity. • Cash Handling responsibilities— $5 ,000 to $10,000 annually. • When practical under the circumstances, intercollegiate staff is encouraged to voluntarily attend all athletic events to promote audience participation and support for NIU team efforts. • Other related duties and special projects and responsibilities may be assigned within these specific program areas.
• Bachelor’s Degree • A minimum of five academic years of progressively responsible experience in athletic administration.
• Ability to effectively develop and nurture internal and external relationships. • Proven track record of leadership in areas of collegiate advancement (reven ue generation) development or corporate giving. • Effective communication skills (oral and written). • Ability to use relevant computer software. • Ability to work in a dynamic, diverse work environment and proven experience working cooperatively with diverse groups and administrators, faculty, staff and students. • Knowledge of NCAA, Conference and University rules and regulations (or willi ngness to learn) and abide by conference and institutional policies and procedures.
• Supervisory experience in athletic administration, collegiate advancement, development or corporate giving. • Experience in providing oversight to Athletic Department revenue generating areas NCAA Division I football experience.
