POSITION SUMMARY: Oversee the University’s men’s and women’s intercollegiate and varsity athletic programs. Responsibilities include: establishing standards of performance for the department; coordinating athletic fundraising activities; establishing and monitoring the athletic department budget; directing the sports information and marketing process; administering athletic scholarship and recruiting activities; coordinating field and facility usage, planning, and upgrades; hiring and training employees; managing athletic procurement; rewarding and disciplining employees; and certifying program compliance.
Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred (preferably in sports management)
Minimum of seven (7) years experience in an intercollegiate Athletic Director, Assistant Athletic Director, or Athletic Department Administrator required; prior intercollegiate coaching experiences, NCAA compliance, fundraising and facilities responsibilities required.
A valid driver's license and CPR certification are required.
NCAA Rules Compliance Certification, or ability to obtain/maintain
Must be available to work extended hours, evenings, weekends, holidays, and during periods in which the University is closed for breaks.
Commitment to implementing the vision, mission, and values of a Catholic, Jesuit, university.
Chair the Athletic Governance structure, maintain communications with the Faculty Athletic Representative and represent Athletics at the University Cabinet level.
Hire, direct and evaluate departmental staff; coordinate regular coaches meetings as desired or required.
Work with the Office of Advancement and the University President on athletic fundraising activities; sets goals to defray program costs. Coordinates all sports information and promotions in compliance with the Office of Advancement / Public Relations.
Administer athletic scholarships through the head coaches and the Admissions / Financial Aid Offices.
Coordinate the procurement of all equipment and supplies for all teams; secure multi-team contracts, ensure logo/color scheme adherence.
Professionally represent the University or ensure adequate representation is available at NCAA and Conference meetings; foster appropriate engagement with community partners.
Prepare annual departmental budget and monitor team accounts; adjust as needed by communicating with the business office.
Coordinate game administration and management through coaches, assigned game administrators and Physical Plant; ensure student workers and minimum staffing are available for each contest. Coordinate all indoor and outdoor athletic facilities maintenance, usage, development, and construction; coordinate NCAA or Conference playoffs which the University is hosting.
Other duties may be assigned by the VP or designee.
