POSITION SUMMARY: The successful candidate will assist the Head Golf Coach with recruiting, skill instruction, student-athlete development, monitoring academic performance, community involvement, fundraising, and practice and game coaching. Additional responsibilities include the coordination and implementation of community service programs, identification and summer camps. Full-time -9 month position; $20,930 plus benefits.
Recruitment: Assist in the recruitment of student athletes. Negotiate scholarship offers to prospects as directed by the head coach. Attend off campus tournaments for the purpose of evaluation and contract. Coordinate mailing of recruitment materials and recruiting information. Maintain contact with prospective student-athletes. Plan campus visits with prospective student-athletes and their parents.
Coaching: Prepare, plan, conduct and evaluate practice sessions, as directed by the head coach. Teach individuals and groups of player specific tasks and skills before, during and after practice, during season and off-season. Teach player sport specific skills. Teach progressions and drills during daily practice.
Team Administration: Administers travel arrangements for team by completing the following tasks when requested by the head coach: organize transportation, hotels and meals for all away games; process all paperwork before and after every trip; create itineraries and work with opponents to schedule practice times. Supervise and assign responsibilities to team managers if applicable. Maintain equipment inventory and oversee distribution to athletes. Plan long and short term team objectives under the leadership of the head coach.
Academics: Coordinate all enrollment activities of student-athletes under the direction of the head coach. Assist with monitoring academic performance, academic progress and class attendance of student-athletes and intervene when necessary.
Campus/Community Communication: Interact with various campus offices and departments. Serve in a leadership role and promote participation in community service activities by student athletes.
Maintain frequent and consistent public contact with high schools, junior colleges, four year schools and clubs for recruitment, scouting and public relations efforts.
Bachelor’s Degree preferred
Previous collegiate experience as a player or coach preferred
CDL or ability to obtain CDL preferred

Courses of Study
Western Texas College offers programs of study that qualify students for the Associate of Arts or Associate of Science Degree and junior standing in a senior college or university, and programs that qualify students for the Associate of Applied Science Degree. Programs are also offered that qualify students for certificates of completion which are awarded to students who successfully fulfill the requirements of a program of less than two years' duration.
Since degree requirements of various colleges and universities vary considerably, students preparing for transfer to senior colleges and universities should check carefully the catalog of their chosen institution and confer with the counselors, registrar, or faculty advisor concerning specific courses to be taken at Western Texas College.
In general, all students working toward a Bachelor of Arts Degree will need basically the same courses in the first two years with a few selected electives. Most students planning a Bachelor of Arts degree, and especially those students who are undecided about a major field, are advised to follow a “liberal arts curriculum.”
