Responsibilities: Serve as the Head Coach of the Softball Team. This is a full-time benefited position that reports to the Assistant Director of Athletics for all duties related to coaching and recruiting. There will be a second responsibility assigned within the athletics department. This person will operate with a committed understanding that in the pursuit of athletic excellence we also seek to develop students for Christian life and service. Coaching Leadership: Manage, support, and direct all aspects of the softball program; comply with the mission and vision of Wheaton College; adhere to all College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin and NCAA rules and regulations; recruit, select, and retain a minimum of 15-20 team members that reflect the profile of Wheaton College students; establish and monitor team standards; schedule all contests with input from supervisor as needed; conduct appropriate training and practices to prepare teams for intercollegiate competition; select and supervise assistant coaching staff that represent the convictions of Wheaton College. Spiritual Leadership: Provide leadership and Christian discipleship to current student-athletes; encourage and develop personal relationships with student-athletes; serve as a consistent role model and resource for student-athletes; cultivate a team culture that engages in prayer, worship, and scripture reading; encourage a holistic environment for the well-being of approximately 20 student-athletes. Administrative Leadership: Ensure all administrative duties related to team management are completed in a timely manner; coordinate softball field maintenance with the facilities management department; manage and operate within the annual softball budget and participate in annual budget planning process; schedule and oversee team transportation to and from away contests; attend departmental staff meetings with participation in committee work as needed; cultivate relationships with softball alumni through E-newsletters and alumni softball games; cultivate relationship with softball Faculty Partner; fulfill an additional duty/second assignment within the Athletic Department
Bachelor’s degree; coaching experience; ability to recruit quality student-athletes at the college level; ability to lead, motivate, and inspire student-athletes on and off of the softball field; excellent communication skills; a commitment to the values of NCAA Division III athletics and Christ-centered education; strong organizational and leadership skills.
Competency in MSOffice computer programs. The person in this position must be able to drive/transport athletes; set up and take down softball equipment; and the ability to lift, move, and carry up to 25lbs.
Preference will be given to candidates who have a master’s degree and multiple years of head coaching experience at the college level. Collegiate playing experience valued.
