Executive, Executive - Associate Athletics Director
JOB SUMMARYProvides assistance in the daily operation of an NCAA Division I rules compliance program inclusive of, but not limited to: academics, financial aid, playing and practice seasons, camps/clinics, extra benefits, rules education and monitoring, and recruiting activities; serve as advisor for the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee; coordinate all Student-Athlete Affairs programming; coordinate and log all department outreach activities; supervise and direct a minimum of two head coaches/sport programs; assist with game day operations; coordinate select athletic banquets.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES:Supervises and manages subordinate personnel; interviews applicants and makes hiring recommendations; trains and orients new employees; monitors and evaluates job performance; monitors and approves employee leave requests; ensures compliance with university policies and procedures; receives employee and student complaints and attempts to resolve the issue; assigns and issues lower level corrective action in accordance with university policies and procedures; receives and adjusts/responds to grievances; investigates and effectively recommends more severe disciplinary action (e.g. major suspensions, terminations, etc.) as warranted.Conducts periodic NCAA compliance/rules education meetings with student-athletes; regularly develops and conducts NCAA rules education for all segments associated with the athletics department, including but not limited to: prospective and current student-athletes, coaches, divisions of athletic staff (e.g. SID, marketing, academics, equipment, etc.) as well as all institutional personnel who assist with complying with NCAA rules (e.g. financial aid office, eligibility committee, etc.) and all other university personnel and boosters (e.g. Penguin Club members, mentors, etc.). Provides NCAA rules education and interpretations; reviews and documents countable athletically-related activity logs and approves competition reports; establishes policies, procedures, and develops documentation, in addition to monitoring NCAA compliance with all youth camp/clinic functions and brochures; monitors and documents all recruiting activities, including official and unofficial visits.Coordinates student-athlete welfare programming; serves as student-athlete advisory committee advisor and conducts regular meetings of such; coordinates and logs department outreach activities.Effectively coordinates and manages designated athletic banquets; secures facility; coordinates mailing list and monitors reservations; secures caterer and any other ancillary expectations (e.g. order awards, etc.); organizes seating arrangements; document expenses and payments.Monitors, processes, and documents the use of book scholarships; collects and monitors book usage and return that complies with NCAA rules.Demonstrates regular and predictable attendanceMeets all job safety requirements and all applicable OSHA safety standards that pertain to essential functions.OTHER FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES:Complies with NCAA and institutional rules and regulations.Assists with home game-day operations as well as university events/functions.Travels as assigned and drive vans as directed.Performs any and all other related duties as assigned or directed in order to promote, further, and ensure the effective and efficient operation of YSU.SUPERVISION EXERCISED: Supervision is exercised over head coaches/sport programs.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: In accordance with Department of Labor and strength ratings, this position performs light workREPORTS TO: Associate Director of Athletics
Bachelor’s Degree; minimum of two (2) years recent experience at the Graduate Assistant level in compliance; or one (1) year recent experience as a full-time Division I institutional employee in compliance; or intern working specifically with NCAA Division I rules; experience should include and result in the ability to independently apply and monitor NCAA rules related to: financial aid, academics, rules education, camps/clinics, recruiting, playing seasons, and recruiting utilizing CAi and LSDBi; demonstrated organizational skills with the ability to multi-task and anticipate future needs; demonstrated effective oral, written and electronic communication skills; high skill level with Microsoft Office Products, with expertise in Excel preferred; must possess valid driver’s license; requires fulfilling job requirements during evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Master’s Degree; collegiate coaching or playing experience.
