UNIVERSITY OF MASSACHUSETTS AMHERST FOUNDATION

The University of Massachusetts Amherst is focused on moving into the nation’s top echelon of public research universities. Athletics is an integral part of this focus and to build upon the campus’ nationally-recognized NCAA Division I athletics program, the campus is seeking an Associate Athletics Director of Capital Projects & Major Gifts.

The University currently fields 21 NCAA Division I teams. The 11 women’s varsity sports are basketball, softball, field hockey, soccer, cross country, swimming and diving, tennis, lacrosse, indoor and outdoor track and field, and crew. The 10 men’s varsity sports are basketball, football, ice hockey, lacrosse, soccer, cross country, swimming and diving, baseball, indoor and outdoor track and field.

Teams compete in three different conferences (Atlantic 10, Hockey East, Colonial Athletic Association) with 18 programs in the Atlantic 10.

ASSOCIATE ATHLETICS DIRECTOR OF CAPITAL PROJECTS & MAJOR GIFTS

This is a new position and represents a unique opportunity for a highly experienced professional to work with the Athletics team at an exciting time. Reporting jointly to the Associate Vice Chancellor for Constituent Programs and the Athletics Director, the Associate Athletics Director, Capital Projects & Major Gifts is responsible for the cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of a select portfolio of major donors and prospects. He/she will also provide leadership in the planning, implementation and coordination of special fundraising initiatives for Athletics capital projects; and provide oversight and coordination of major donors and prospects assigned to other members of the Athletics Development Office team.

The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree, with an advanced degree preferred, and five or more years experience in a development program, preferably with a higher education athletics development program. He/she will have a proven track record of cultivating, soliciting and closing gifts of $25,000+; capital campaign experience; and demonstrated ability to recruit and manage volunteers. The ideal candidate will also have excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communications skills; management experience; and excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities. The ability to travel frequently and work evenings and weekends is required.
